BEMIDJI — Well, that didn’t take long.

Tickets for Garrison Keillor’s “A Prairie Home Companion” broadcast from the Chief Theater in downtown Bemidji on Nov. 9 sold out six minutes after they went on sale exclusively online Thursday.

The Chief Theater uses a web-based system and it was overwhelmed with users as soon as it hit 10 a.m. Thursday, said George McConnel, business manager for the Chief Theater and the Paul Bunyan Playhouse.

Officials posted these remarks on the Chief Theater’s website:

“The Board of the Chief Theater and Home of the Paul Bunyan Playhouse is greatly appreciative of the support from the community in every season on our stage. And rarely has your enthusiasm been more evident than during the recent ticket sales for A Prairie Home Companion! Although our ticketing system worked as it should, it was slightly overwhelmed with the sheer number of people trying to buy tickets. . . We would have liked to accommodate each and every one of you that wanted a ticket to enjoy the live show but please remember it can be heard on your local public radio stations.

Thank you again for your support.”

Keillor’s show was announced last Tuesday. The longtime Minnesota radio icon has a weekly listening audience of nearly 4 million for “A Prairie Home Companion.” The Bemidji live broadcast will start at 4:45 p.m.
