Keep activists out of marriage decision
Passage of the marriage protection amendment ensures that the people of Minnesota themselves, and not activist judges or politicians, decide how our state will define marriage in the future.
Without a marriage amendment in our constitution, activist judges or politicians can substitute their values for those of the people of Minnesota. This is exactly what happened elsewhere.
Many letter writers have tried to tell us otherwise and that is simply a lie. Ask the parents of children in Massachusetts if they can have their children excused when same-sex topics are discussed. Not only are parents left out from notification, but they are prevented from removing their own children from class.
The marriage protection amendment ensures that if activists want to redefine marriage in the future, they must receive the approval of voters to do so.
