Kathryn Lucille (Huff) Peterson, 77, of Park Rapids, died Monday, Dec. 22, 2008, at her home near Park Rapids.
The funeral was held at 11 a.m. Monday at Bethany Lutheran Church in Nevis with the Rev. A.J. Kluver officiating. Visitation was held from 3-6 p.m. Sunday in the Cease Family Funeral Home Chapel in Park Rapids. Burial will be in Hubbard Cemetery in Hubbard, Minn.
The pallbearers were Kathryn's sons-in-law and grandchildren, Rod Wattenhofer, Steve Wattenhofer, Casey Fouts, Luis Candelaria, Lucas Peterson, Tom Hass and Joshua Hass.
She was born on Sept. 3, 1931, to Frank and Tenny (Titsworth) Huff in Crawford County, Ark. She grew up in Galena Park, Texas. She graduated from Galena Park High School in 1950. She married Richard R. Peterson June 1, 1956, in Coco Solito, Panama. They lived in Panama until 1957 when they moved to Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., where they lived until 1959. They lived in Germany from 1960-1964, before moving to Tampa, Fla. They lived in Tampa until December 1966 when her husband retired from the military and moved to Park Rapids where they have resided since.
She worked for more than 20 years as the office manager for ServiceMaster in Park Rapids, a job she recently retired from. She served as the Hubbard Township clerk for more than 20 years where she also served as an election official.
She enjoyed fishing, reading, lawn work, and feeding and watching birds, gardening, raising flowers and vegetables. For many years she would walk two miles to her garden at a friend's house. She volunteered at the Century School in Park Rapids, helping children with reading and math skills. She was a former member of the St. Joseph's Hospital Auxiliary. She was also an adult leader for 4-H. She had been an active member of the United Methodist Women's group in Hubbard. She recently was attending Bethany Lutheran Church of Nevis.
She is survived by her husband of Northome; daughters, Karen (Luis) Candelaria of Park Rapids, Marie (Tom) Hass of Nevis and Margaret (Rod) Wattenhofer of Park Rapids; seven grandchildren; great-grandchildren; sisters, Bobbie (Sonny) Wright of Houston, Texas, Marge (Tunny) Tanoos of Liberty, Texas, and Mickey (Al) Richards of Katy, Texas; brother, Jim Huff of Nolanville, Texas, and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Louis Huff; and a grandson.
