Kari Nelson, 63, of Bemidji, MN, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and loved ones, Thursday, January 23, 2014, at the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 28, 2014, at the Evangelical Covenant Church, Bemidji, officiated by Pastor Dave Benedict. One hour prior to the service, family will greet visitors at the church. Interment will be in Aardahl Lutheran Cemetery, Bemidji.
Kari Elizabeth Kirch was born July 14, 1950, in St. Paul, to Donald and Dorothy (Lavik) Kirch. She graduated from Mahtomedi High School and received a bachelors degree in history and library science from Bemidji State University. Kari married David Nelson in 1974 in St. Paul. Together, they lived in Bemidji, where she dedicated many volunteer hours at the Heartland Christian Academy library as well as assisted her husband at Chiropractic Professionals. She enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking, and traveling.
She is survived by her husband, David Nelson of Bemidji; 2 daughters, Jenny (Pr) Andrasson of San Luis Obispo, CA, and Erin (Benjamin Smith) Nelson of Ann Arbor, MI; mother, Dorothy Kirch of Stillwater; brother, Kevin Kirch of St. Paul; and sister, Jamie (Mark) Markoe of Dellwood. She was preceded in death by her father, Donald Kirch.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to the Richard M. Schulze Family American Cancer Society Hope Lodge.
