Former Detroit Lakes resident Karen M. (Baker) Boomgarden, 67, of Redwood Falls, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2009 at her home, following a battle with cancer.
Karen M. Baker was born to Melvin and Margaret (Ebbengay) Baker on April 3, 1942 in Wayne, Neb. Karen and her family moved to Minnesota in 1946. She attended Brewster High School, graduating in 1959. On Dec. 18, 1960, Karen married Peter Boomgarden in Heron Lake, Minn. Together, the couple moved to Detroit Lakes and later to Ivanhoe, Minn. In 1984, they moved to Redwood Falls.
Karen's faith and walk with God was most important to her. She was very active in her church, teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She received her ministerial licensure and continued to teach Bible School and be part of the leadership in the ministry.
Karen belonged to the Christian Women's Club, and was a state officer of the Women's Federation. She recently completed a Mission Trip to Guyana, South America. She enjoyed traveling, collecting antique dishware and Depression glass. She loved cooking, canning, freezing, gardening, and being a gracious hostess.
Surviving Karen are her children, Bruce Allen Boomgarden of Redwood Falls, and Carrie (Rob) Danz of Andover, Minn.; one granddaughter; brother Dennis (Mary Lou) Baker of Kenneth, Minn.; as well as many other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband Peter; and sister Marion.
Visitation was set to take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 29 at the Redwood Valley Funeral Home in Redwood Falls, continuing for one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, April 30 at the Willmar Assembly of God Church, Willmar, Minn.
Interment will be held at 4:00 p.m. in the Prairie Hill Cemetery in Fulda, Minn.
