Kalis wins season debut in Bemidji State baseball
The Bemidji State baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Colorado Christian University on Thursday at the Metrodome in Minneapolis.
The Beavers defeated the Cougars 4-2 in Game 1 and lost 3-0 in Game 2. Bemidji State's record moved to 2-2 with the split.
Bemidji State pitcher Logan Kalis struck out six and allowed one earn run in six innings in Game 1.
Jaryd Marks was 2-for-3 at the plate with one run and one RBI to lead BSU.
The Beavers scored two runs each in the first and sixth innings.
Marks' double to left-center field in the first inning scored Zach Braun from second base to put BSU up 2-0.
Marks and Matt Ellinghuysen scored in the sixth inning.
Colorado Christian (1-5) scored the only run it needed in the third inning of Game 2 and added a pair of insurance runs in the seventh inning.
Trevor Purvis, Juan Molero, Lewis Baumann, Braun and Ellinghuysen had the five hits for BSU, which stranded seven runners in the loss.
The Beavers are off until its six-game spring trip to Phoenix, Ariz. The week-long trip starts March 3.
