Jury convicts man for threats against Cass County deputy

WALKER - A Cass County jury has found a 31-year-old man guilty for terroristic threats against a sheriff's deputy.

Robert Joseph Jones faces 29 to 39 months in prison on the felony charge. He is scheduled to be sentenced May 21.

According to court papers, a Cass County deputy responded to a call about a fight at a Cass Lake residence. The deputy identified Jones, who had a warrant for his arrest.

While being taken to jail, Jones made several threats to the deputy, stated he was affiliated with the Native Mob gang and said he would find out where the deputy lived.

Assistant Cass County Attorney Benjamin Lindstrom requested Jones be held in jail until the sentencing date, citing public safety concerns. District Judge David Harrington denied the request and released Jones.

According to the Cass County Attorney's Office, Jones has previous convictions for two felony third-degree assaults, three felony fourth-degree assaults against a peace officer and a terroristic threats case.
