Juliet Marcella Holmes was born to Ole and Emma (Narveson) Holmes on May 29, 1919 at their home in Fargo. She was the youngest of five children. Julie attended Roosevelt Elementary School and graduated from South Side High School in Fargo. She attended business college in Fargo, where she studied banking and bookkeeping. After college Julie moved to St. Paul, where she was employed as the first woman crew chief for Northwest Airlines. She supervised the packing of the B-24, which was one of the two United States heavy bomber planes used in World War II.

After World War II Julie moved to Fergus Falls, where she was employed at the Gambles Store. Julie met Charles Johnson in Fergus Falls. On Oct. 26, 1946, they were married at the First Lutheran Church in Fargo. They resided in Fergus Falls for a short time, then moved to New York Mills in 1953.

In 1959 Charley and Julie acquired the Charles Johnson Insurance Agency, which they owned and operated for 35 years. On July 15, 1997 Charley passed away. Julie resided at the Garrett Lee Home in Henning from 2003 until January 2008, when she moved to the Knute Nelson Home in Alexandria.

The happiest time in Julie's life was becoming a grandmother. She enjoyed fishing at Lake of the Woods on Memorial Day weekend with her family. She also enjoyed listening to polka music and playing the accordion. Being the animal lover that she was, she would always say, "I love a dog!"

Julie will be dearly missed by her family and friends, including her daughter, Deborah (Merl) Johnson of Detroit Lakes; her sons, Greg Johnson of New York Mills and Timothy Johnson of Garfield; two grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Preceding Julie in death were her parents; husband, Charley; brother, Orvis; and her sisters, Pearl, Hazel and Elenore.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, April 19, at the St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New York Mills, with the Rev. Marilee Bergerson officiating.

The pallbearers will be Kyle Johnson, Merl Johnson, Alison Johnson, Dennis Johnson, Ann Marie Brown and Chris Mattson. Juliet will be laid to rest in St. Peter's Cemetery in New York Mills.

Arrangements were provided by the Karvonen & Son Funeral Home in New York Mills.
