Joyce D. Anderson, 59, of Detroit Lakes, died Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at Innovis Health in Fargo.

Joyce Darlene Nelson was born to Dean and Shirley (King) Nelson on Nov. 3, 1949 in Detroit Lakes, where she grew up and received her education, graduating from Detroit Lakes High School in 1967. She then attended North Central Bible College in Minneapolis.

On June 5, 1971 Joyce married Donald G. Anderson. They made their home and raised their family in Detroit Lakes. Joyce was very involved in her ministry of music. She was a very accomplished musician, who shared her gift of music her entire life. Most notably, she played the piano and arranged music for the Gospel group "Shekinah" for 13 years.

Joyce was working for TEAM Industries in Audubon at the time of her death. She was also very interested in genealogy and history. She served on the board of the Becker County Historical Society.

Joyce was a very caring mother, grandmother, and daughter, and will be greatly missed by those she leaves behind, including husband Donald Anderson of Detroit Lakes; son Daniel (Kristy) Anderson of Audubon; daughter, Bethany (Dave) Ustanko of Fargo; three grandchildren; parents, Dean and Shirley Nelson of Detroit Lakes;

brother, Richard (Nancy) Nelson of Detroit Lakes; two sisters, Judy (Mike) Graff of West Fargo and Jeanne (Mack) Nason of North Pole, Alaska; her father- and mother-in-law, Ray J. and Marian Anderson of Detroit Lakes; as well as several nieces and nephews. Her brother, Gary Dean Nelson, preceded her in death.

Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 30 from 4 to 7 p.m. at West-Kjos Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes, with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31 at Assembly of God Church, Detroit Lakes, with the Rev. Paul McKibben officiating.

Casket bearers will be Jon Ramsey, Tim Ramsey, Dave Ustanko, Russell Nelson, Jason Graff and Tim Nelson. Burial will be in Holmesville Cemetery, rural Detroit Lakes.
