Hensley Auto Salvage has not been in operation since December, when the Greater Bemidji Area Joint Planning Board rescinded its Conditional Use Permit because of violations at the site.
Without the CUP, Hensley Auto Supply could not operate.
The JPB stated that the business met all of the conditions of the CUP and was able to obtain a new permit through the joint planning process.
That process is now beginning.
The Greater Bemidji Area Joint Planning Commission will hold a public hearing and consider a recommendation on the request by Bill and Barb Hensley for an Interim Use Permit for the business, which includes auto salvage, auto repair and used auto sales.
Joint planning staff has not offered a recommendation on the matter.
The JPC, whose recommendation will be forwarded to the Joint Planning Board for final consideration in July, has several options, according to planning documents.
It could decide to recommend the permanent closure of the business, recommend its approval with conditions, or recommend that the business be given more time.
Hensley Auto Supply was established in 1977 in Northern Township.
Other agenda items
Three other public hearings are scheduled during the JPC's meeting.
- A request from Sandra Allendorf for a 55-foot variance from the required 100-foot setback from the Ordinary High Water Mark of Lake Bemidji that would allow for the installation of a mound septic system to serve 7314 Birchmont Court Northeast.
- A rezone request by the JPC to have eight parcels, located west of U.S. Highway 2 between 15th Street Northwest and Paul Bunyan Drive Northwest, rezoned from B-2 (general commercial) to R-5 (high-density housing).
- Submission of a preliminary plat for Marquette Heights, a proposed development allow County Road 11. Six acres have been proposed to be broken into four parcels.
