Authorities identify man who died in fiery crash on Interstate 29 south of Grand Forks

John Vance Nolden, 23, of Hines, died on Friday, Feb. 27, 2009, under hospice care, at his home.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Cease Funeral Home Chapel in Blackduck, with the Rev. Mark Hovestol officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the services.

He was born on Jan. 24, 1986 in Bemidji. He attended school in Bemidji and Blackduck; graduating from Blackduck High School in 2004. He started working as a teenager in the fast food industry. He enjoyed doing farm work during harvest. He liked growing things and outdoor activities. He enjoyed spending time with his dog and constant companion. He was always grateful for his friends who stood by him when he was sick.

He is survived by his mother, Mary (Lester) Colen of Blackduck; grandfather, Ignatius Knoppes of New London, Minn.; grandmother, Ethel Hanson of Albert Lea, Minn.; brothers and sisters, Scott (Reanea) Nolden of Bemidji, Ross (Beth) Trott of Bemidji, Desiree Trott of Grand Rapids, Minn., Paul Trott of Moorhead, Minn., Mark Nolden of Moorhead, Valarie (Lance) Colden of International Falls, Minn., Coreena (Ricky) Moe of Babbitt, Minn., Melissa Shockley of Blackduck, Michelle Davis of Blackduck, Andrea Colen of Litchfield, Minn., Joshua McGowan of Bemidji, Nikki Lee Nolden, Brandon Gable, Brian Gable, Danielle Myers, Kendra Myers, April Nolden, Jenny Nolden and Tina Nolden and foster parents, Tom and Mimi Varberg of California.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Donna Knoppes and his paternal grandfather, Hanson.
