John Allen Johnson, 77, of Tenstrike,MN died Thursday, March 21, 2013 at his home after a short battle with cancer.
Funeral Services will be 1:00 pm Friday, March 29, 2013 at the Cease Family Funeral Home in Bemidji, MN with Pastor Kent Dudley officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Lakeview Cemetery in Blackduck, MN.
John was born May 24, 1935 at the family farm in Hagli Township, near Tenstrike, MN, the son of Elvin and Phyllis (Bolden) Johnson. He was raised on the family farm. He served our country in the U. S. Navy during the Korean Conflict from 1952-1956. He married Mavis LaVonne Trepanier on July 21, 1956. Bemidji High School rewarded him with a diploma upon his discharge and return home. He logged for a time before he joined the Operating Engineers Local 49ers in 1964. He was a Dozer Operator, working road construction in Minnesota and North Dakota. He also worked on several pipelines in Wisconsin, Minnesota, South Dakota, North Dakota, Utah and Wyoming. He retired in Sept. of 1997.
He was a lifetime member of the VFW post # 1260 of Bemidji and the Bemidji Eagles Aerie # 351. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He spent his summers following retirement mowing and maintaining the acres of deer hunting land. He enjoyed having a Schmidt beer with his family and friends.
He is survived by Son: Keith (Julie) Johnson of Bemidji,3 daughters:Debra (Art Ness) Johnson of Bemidji, Jill (Ed) Haug of Bemidji, Jeri (Kevin) Johnson-Kuhlman of Thief River Falls, MN, 7 grandchildren - Heather, Mara and Chelsea Johnson, Aric and Amy Haug, Staci and Matthew Corne, a great grandson- Chandler Bower, a sister- Delores Ekholm of Nashwauk, MN, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by parents, wife- Mavis in 2005, sister- Joyce Trimble, brother- Leland Johnson and an infant brother- Elvin Johnson.
Honorary Casketbearers will be all of his grandchildren; Heather, Mara and Chelsea Johnson, Staci and Matthew Corne and Aric and Amy Haug and great grandson Chandler Bowers.
Casketbearers will be Dennis Speck, Roger Falk, Todd McClellan, Al Gulden, Brian Ekholm and Jeff Ekholm.
