Joel B. Fleming, 70

The Villages, FL - Joel Benoni Fleming, age 70, passed away on August 28th 2007 at the Tuscany House Hospice of Marian County, Florida. He was born in Fairmont, WV on November 14th, 1936. Joel lived in The Villages, FL for the past 6 years. Before moving to Florida, Joel resided on Lake Beltrami in Bemidji, MN. He was a graduate of the University of Minnesota. He did graduate work at Michigan State University and earned masters degrees in Communication Arts and Sociology and began work on PhD studies in Education and Communication earning an ABD from Michigan State University.

Joel Fleming was the son of Harold and Irene Fleming - both deceased, and is survived by his three children, Te'o Fleming, Kim Hee Fleming, A.J. Fleming and his only grandchild, Kaleo Ian Fleming of Te'o and Melina Fleming. He is also survived by more than 40 "Aiga" or his Samoan family with whom he worked and formed lifelong friendships as the pioneer directors and producers of Educational Television in American Samoa during the mid 1960's.

Joel was the voice of KSTP radio and a producer for KTCA TV in St. Paul, Minnesota and worked in Richmond Virginia as the Director of Instructional Media for the Commonwealth of Virginia. He was a passionate lover of Jazz and photography and in his most recent years he was an active participant in the Philosophy and Jazz clubs in the Villages. He lived a life full of international and domestic travel having lived in American Samoa, Alaska and Guam and traveled to China, Korea, Argentina, Brazil, England, Germany, Mexico, Spain, and Italy among others.

Joel truly savored the simple pleasures and beauties of life such as family, friendship, loud music and laughter. He was a beautiful, kind, loving person whose face would light up with a simple hello. Joel touched many lives and he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
