James E. "Grandpa Jim" Staudenmaier Sr., 90, of Detroit Lakes, died at St. Mary's Innovis Health in Detroit Lakes on Wednesday, January 14, 2009.
James Edward Staudenmaier was born in Withrow, Minn., on June 9, 1918. He was raised in St. Paul and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. A lifetime member of both the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion, James was also a member of the typographical union and worked at the St. Paul Dispatch until he retired.
Surviving James are his two sons, James Jr. (Edna) Staudenmaier of Rockville, Tenn., and Ted (Arvonne) Staudenmaier of Detroit Lakes; four grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by Edna Lynn Staudenmaier, his wife of 57 years.
A memorial prayer service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20 at the Cedar Ridge living room in Oak Crossing (formerly St. Mary's Nursing Center) in Detroit Lakes. A private burial will be held in St. Paul.
The Staudenmaier family wishes to thank the staff and tenants of Lincoln Park Senior Living and Oak Crossing for their kindness, cooperation, and understanding in caring for Jim. He often said that it was a miracle he had such good care and living conditions.
