Jim was born October 11, 1952 in Fosston, Minnesota to Don and Shirley (Burt) Hood. He attended school in Fosston until the end of eighth grade, then off to Warren, Minnesota, then to Bagley for his Junior and Senior years. He graduated from Bagley High School in the class of 1971. He attended UMC in Crookston, wrestling for two years. He attended Bemidji State College for one year before beginning his carpentry career. He drove school bus for 25 years for the Bagley School District.

Jim married Mary Arneson of Shevlin on June 15, 1974. He built the house they live in. They have three children. He built the houses each one of them and their families live in.

Jim was a mighty builder. He has built and/or remodeled many structures in the area, and thus his carpentry legacy lives on. He was a family man through and through, always planning activities his children and grandchildren could enjoy with him (like buying the pontoon and building a diving board for all 15 of us to enjoy.)

Jim was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed nature and all its glory. His annual highlight was duck hunting with his son and deer hunting with his three children, their spouses, his grandchildren, and his wife. Fishing was a sport Jim enjoyed all year round. He loved having his family in his boat or on the ice, fishing or dark house spearing, just as long as they were together. He loved spending time with his friends while muzzle loading in Pinewood and Lengby, fishing lake trout in Canada, and Sturgeon on Rainy River.

Jim is survived by his wife Mary Hood of Shevlin, Minnesota
