James Ernest Lossing, 85, of Blackduck, Minnesota died Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Bigfork Valley Villas in Bigfork, Minnesota.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at the Evangelical Free Church in Blackduck, MN with John Keers officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Langor Cemetery in Langor Township, Minnesota at a later date. Cease Family Funeral Home of Blackduck is assisting the family with arrangements.
He was born August 15, 1928 in Quinn, S.D. to Burnie Wilder and Alpha Aurelia (Jarvis) Lossing. The family moved to Langor Township in 1933 and he attended Langor Township Country School until the eighth grade. He worked on the family farm and logged with his father. He married Helen Louise Coburn on August 6, 1950 in Blackduck, MN.
He worked in a silver mine in Idaho for a short time and then came back and logged and worked on the family farm again. In 1964, he began working for Nendick Hardware until his retirement in 2000. He worked as a handyman in the area until his wife, Helen, died in 2009. He then moved to the Bigfork Valley Villas in Bigfork.
He was a charter member of the Jolly Trailriders Saddle Club and a member of the NRA. He loved being with and spending time with his family. He enjoyed raising and training horses, camping by horseback, trail riding and singing around the campfire.
He is survived by 7 children, John (Darlene) Lossing of Cook, MN, Helen "Babe" (Sonny) Lahr of Blackduck, MN, Dan (Gaye) Lossing of Gilbert, MN, Randy (Dana) Lossing of Virginia, MN, Floyd (Gail) Lossing of Blackduck, MN, Dixie ("Corky") Wirkus of Blackduck, MN and Rex (Chris) Lossing of Blackduck, MN; 28 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; a sister, Grace (Bernie) Wahlert of Minneapolis, MN; a brother, Wallace "Wally" Lossing of Virginia and numerous nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen Lossing on February 12, 2009; a son, James Robert Lossing; a grandson, Shawn Michael Lossing and 8 brothers and sisters.
