Jacks tie DL 2-2
The Bemidji High boys soccer team remained undefeated Tuesday, battling Detroit Lakes to a 2-2 overtime tie at DL. The pair meet again at Bemidji Sept. 15.
Bemidji overcame an early 1-0 deficit to take a 2-1 lead in the second half, only to see the Lakers battle back to tie with 20 minutes remaining on a penalty kick.
There was no further scoring through that period plus two five minute overtimes.
DL dressed 12 seniors and proved a big, strong club playing a very physical game.
But it out shot Bemidji only 12-11 with Kevin Larson making 10 saves and Dan Engberg nine for the home team
Giorgio Ulissi converted a throw in at the 21 minute mark to score the game's first goal.
Rylee Curb got it back one minute before halftime on a Riley Brooks feed.
DL held an 8-4 shots lead at the intermission.
But the Jacks went ahead 2-1 at the 47 minute mark on Curb's second goal of the game, Matt Lee drawing the assist on this score.
That lead lasted for 13 minutes when DL was awarded a penalty kick which Andy Schupp converted.
Both teams had their chances down the stretch and through the two extra periods but neither would score again.
The tie dropped Bemidji to 2-0-1. The Jacks host Walker Thursday at 4:30.
The B Team found the victory column for the first time in a 4-1 triumph, breaking 1-1 tie in the second half to win.
Jake Arndt, Sebastian Voitel, Dillon Eichstadt and Austin Kovach had the goals. Carl Graefe had six stops, matching the DL total.
