Thursday's weather conditions were not conducive to tennis but the Bemidji High School boys team braved the conditions and hosted Grand Rapids and Park Rapids.

The Lumberjacks lost 6-1 to the Thunderhawks in the opener but recovered to down Park Rapids 7-0.

"We thought about cancelling but I'm glad we were able to get the matches in,"

said BHS coach Mark Fodness. "Rescheduling would have been difficult but, on the other hand, you don't want to play when the conditions are unfair.

Thursday the conditions bordered on unfair but we were able to get the matches in."

Grand Rapids is one of the stronger teams in the area and the Thunderhawks showed their talents against the Lumberjacks.

"Grand Rapids is very good," Fodness said. "It's no shame to lose to that team."

BHS managed one victory as Tim Paulus and Zach Hewitt posted a 6-4, 3-6,(11-9) win at third doubles. BHS also came close at second doubles where Craig Lindseth and Jack Boyer fell 7-6 (7-5), 7-5.

At first doubles Bemidji's duo of Adam Holter and Kyle Fodness dropped a 6-2,

6-4 decision.

The visitors swept the singles action. Levi Rickert tumbled 6-1, 6-2 at first as did Alec Hess at second. Matt Hokanson lost 6-1,6-0 at third and Noah Holter fell by the same score at fourth.

The Lumberjacks dominated Park Rapids, needing to go three sets in only two matches.

At first singles Rickert outgunned Alex Renner 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7-3) while Robert Treuer stopped Mitchell Fossen 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 at fourth.

Hess won 6-1, 6-2 at second singles and Hokanson prevailed 6-1, 6-0 at third.

In doubles action Fodness and Adam Holter breezed to a 6-1, 6-0 win while Paulus and Hewitt collected a 6-0,6-1 victory at second. Capping the day was a 6-3, 6-0 win by Matt Armstrong and Matt Chatterton at third doubles.
