Jacks ski trio leaves for state meet
As a preliminary competition to Thursday's state Nordic ski meet, the coaches' association members will host the Charlie Banks Relay today at Giant's Ridge.
The event was created to provide a race for the skiers who came up short in their bids for berths at the state meet.
The format includes four-person teams and a three-kilometer course. The first two skiers per team will do a classical run while their two teammates will skate-ski the trail.
Bemidji will enter a team in both the boys and the girls races. In the boys division Sam Dwyer and Eli Rassler will handle the classical course while John Buckanaga and Kyle Sagedahl will do the skating legs.
Bemidji's girls relay team will feature Laura Yourd and Summer Johnson (classical) and Alicia Papke-Larson and Kim Truedson (skating).
The girls will hit the course at noon while the boys race is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
The state meet will be held Thursday at Giant's Ridge and the Lumberjacks will be represented by three skiers.
Bailey Drewes will be in the girls race while Adam Holter and Tony Sagedahl will compete in the boys division.
