It didn't take long for the Bemidji High girls hockey team to take control Tuesday night at Nymore Arena.

The Jacks scored 27 seconds into the game and added another 20 seconds later and cruised past Detroit Lakes 10-2 and improve to 17-3-1 on the season.

Sarah Erickson netted a hat trick and added an assist for a 4-point night. Jessica Christofferson had a goal and two assists for three points. Erickson and Christofferson's linemate Courtney Josefson added a goal and an assist to give the Jacks' top line nine points on the evening.

Bemidji picked up four goals and four assists from their remaining three lines.

"All four lines scored and that was huge for us," BHS coach Matt Menne said. "It was our goal to get some depth at scoring which will be key for us in the playoffs.

"It's good that we can count on everyone not just our top line; we have a lot of confidence out on the ice right now."

Top-line defenseman Carly Swenson ended with a goal and an assist. Freshman Emily Larson also added a goal and an assist, Kara Rich scored a goal and Annie Swartz picked up an assist for the Jacks' defense.

"It was great to see our defense score some goals," Menne said.

Menne said he likes where his team is at heading into the final four games of the regular season versus Roseau, Alexandria, Moorhead and Cloquet-Esko-Carlton.

"Right now we're hitting our stride and we're hoping that we'll carry that momentum right into the playoffs," he said.

Swenson and Dickson opened the scoring and it was all Jacks from there.

Christofferson and Erickson added first-period goals to give BHS a 4-1 lead after the first. Rich, Josefson and Larson put the Jacks up 7-2 after two and Colley split a pair of Erickson goals in the third.

Katrina Smith started in net for the Jacks. The sophomore stopped eight. Janaye Johnson stopped 36 of Bemidji's 46 shots.

The Jacks host Roseau Thursday at Bemidji State's John Glas Fieldhouse in their final home game of the regular season. The puck drops at 7 p.m.

Girls JV divides recent games

The Bemidji girls JV hockey team divided its most recent two games, beating Wright County 2-0 Saturday afternoon before falling Monday night to Grand Rapids 1-0. Both games were played at Nymore Gardens.

Saturday, Bemidji scored first and third period goals and rode the shutout goal tending of Maria Thompson and Kaia Sele to victory.

Kara Rich tallied in the first period with Elissa Port and Kayla Colley getting assists.

Andrea Goodwin scored in the third period from a Bethany Fluto pass.

Thompson made four stops in working the first half of the game. Sele had eight in the last half.

Kim Franklin faced 26 shots in the Wright County goal, rejecting 24.

Both Bemidji goals came at even strength with the home team successfully killing off both penalties it drew, the only ones of the game.

Monday, Molly Illikainen scored in the opening 50 seconds of overtime as Grand Rapids ran its record against Bemidji to 3-0. The first pair came 3-1 and 3-2.

The Rapids contests replace games lost when several of Bemidji's opponents do not field B Teams.

Sele made five stops in the first period and Katrina Smith 12 in the second, third and overtime.

Jessie Havel kicked back 24 in the Rapids' net.

Each team killed off two penalties during the game.

Pete Sullivan has taken over as head coach of the JV succeeding Shane Veenker who has moved up to become assistant women's hockey coach at BSU and will hold a similar post with the women's softball team this spring.

The JV hosted Detroit Lakes last night and plays at Alexandria Saturday. Roseau will not field a JV for Thursday night's game.

The JV is 13-6 on the year.
