Bemidji dropped the meet 5-2 but four of the individual battles went the full three sets and the visitors prevailed in three of them.

"Brainerd has a good lineup but we stayed with them all the way," said BHS coach Mark Fodness. "We've had several matches like this during the year. Our job is to turn these close matches around. We need to find a way to win them and we're not that far away from doing just that."

Matt Hokanson won his second singles match 6-2, 3-6, 6-3. The other BHS victory was contributed by the first doubles team of Kyle Fodness and Adam Holter which collected a 6-4, 6-2 triumph.

Losing in three sets were Noah Holter at fourth singles, Zach Hewitt and Austin Korczak at second doubles and the third doubles tandem of Garret Atteberry and Gabe Heifort.

Alex Hess fell in straight sets at first singles as did Isak Sommer at third singles.

"I like the way we are competing for every game," Fodness said. "There were many tight points and good matches today. We may have lost 5-2 but I can't fault our effort.

"And the players are excited as well," the coach continued. "It's nice to hear them say that they want to meet Brainerd again in the section meet."
