Jacks get back to winning ways, end losing skid

The Bemidji High boys basketball team snapped a three game skid Saturday scoring a 59-50 win over Alexandria in the second game of a double header.

Bemidji overcame a slow first half to outscore the Cardinals 47-30 in the second half to pull awa,.

It lifted Bemidji to 12-7. Alex dropped to 7-10.

The Jacks go to Detroit Lakes Tuesday and host Rocori in the nightcap of another twin bill Saturday.

Neither team made headway in the defensive first half with Alex going on a 9-3 early run to lead 10-6 only to fall behind 15-10 to a Bemidji charge.

They staged another seven point string to lead 17-15 but saw Bemidji battle back to lead 22-20 at the half.

Ryan Rude had half of the Jacks total. Mark Whiting led Alex with six,

Bemidji opened the second half with a six point run and never surrendered the lead though Alex stayed close through the first six minutes.

It trailed 39-34 when Bemidji launched a 10 point run to take charge, four coming from Carey Woods.

The home team gradually widened its lead down the stretch as Alex continued to have problems connecting.

Rude ended with 27 to take game honors, his best game of the season. Dan Frost and Czar Woods followed with nine.

Whiting's14 lead Alex with Dan Gorghuber netting 10.

Bemidji held a slim 42-39 boards edge with Rude leading there with eight. Whiting claimed 12 for the visitors.

Bemidji had a season low six turnovers which aided its cause. Alex committed only 14.

Te win lifted the Jacks to 12-7. Alexandria dropped to 7-10.

The B and C Teams split. The B Team lost 62-47, out scored 33-22 in the second half.

Ben Hengel hit 12 and Mitch Hendricks 11 to lead Bemidji. Dylan Gallagan had 16 for the winners. The B Team dropped to 12-7.

The freshmen are 4-11 with a 62-52 decision.

Nick Hovila hit 20 and Isaac Sommer 15, both season bests. Doyle and Holman had 11 for the Cards.
