Jacks' Dale qualifies for state golf meet
SAUK CENTRE - Trey Dale followed Monday's 79 with a 72 during Tuesday's second day of the Section 8-3A golf tournament and his 36-hole score of 151 earned the Bemidji senior a trip to the state golf tournament.
The Class 3A meet will be held June 12-13 at Bunker Hills and Dale will be making his second consecutive trip to the meet. A year ago he finished 23rd.
In the section team competition the Lumberjacks finished fifth with rounds of 312-312-624. Moorhead dominated and shot a section record score of 298-283-581.
Alexandria was a distant second at 309-300-609 while Brainerd shot 310-302-612 and Buffalo 308-309-617. St. Cloud Tech completed the top six at 316-327-643.
"Our best round during the regular season was 311 so shooting 312 both days is very good," said BHS coach Seth Knudson. "We can hold our heads high."
The other Lumberjacks individual scores included Elliot Leinen's 77-79-156, Kodi Craft's 77-80-157, Sam Starkey's 79-84-163, Zach Rickers' 85-81-166 and Ryan Erickson's 81-88-169.
Bryant Buckellew of Moorhead was the medalist at 73-65-138.
Girls meet
The Lumberjacks will not be represented at the girls state meet. Following Monday's round only Katelin Craft and Morgan Williams made the second-day cut. Craft ended at 88-96-184 and Williams at 90-94-184.
"I'm disappointed in myself," Craft said. "But as a team I think there is a good future for the Jacks next year. We have no seniors and the experience we gained will help us next year."
