THIEF RIVER FALLS - The Bemidji boys tennis team continued to improve Thursday as the Lumberjacks finished second at the Northwest Quad hosted by the Prowlers.
The home team won the event with 19 team points while BHS had 11 and Crookston and East Grand Forks tied with six.
BHS did not have any event champions but Noah Holter went 2-1 at third singles. Joining Holter at 2-1 were the first doubles tandem of Adam Holter and Kyle Fodness plus the second doubles team of Austin Korcazk and Zach Hewitt.
Garret Atteberry and Gabe Heifort posted a 2-0 record at third doubles.
BHS coach Mark Fodness also used Jack Boyer and Craig Lindseth at third doubles and that duo dropped a decision to Thief River Falls.
Noah Holter won 6-4, 6-4 over Crookston and belted Alex Havis of EGF 6-0, 6-1.
Adam Holter and Kyle Fodness lost in three sets to Crookston but downed the top-seeded duo from Thief River Falls 7-6 (8-6), 6-4 and blitzed their EGF opponents 6-2, 6-0.
Bemidji, TRF and Crookston all went 2-1 at first doubles but Crookston's tandem was awarded first place by virtue of its win over the Jacks.
Korczk and Hewitt stopped Crookston and East Grand Forks but lost to Thief River Falls.
Alec Hess went 1-2 at first singles as did Matt Hokanson at second and Sam Howard at third.
Bemidji returns home today with a 4:30 p.m. meet against Brainerd.
