"This was a high-quality win for us against a very good team," said BHS coach Jeff Brown. "We started slowly but in the second half we got after things, especially defensively."

The Lumberjacks owned a 27-24 lead at intermission but their press and defensive pressure helped widen the gap to double figures throughout much of the second half.

"We built the lead to 15 or 16 points and maintained that margin most of the way," Brown said.

The officials allowed both teams to play a physical brand of basketball but Bemidji was able to overcome the banging.

"Cody had a very good night despite getting pounded," Brown said. "He continually went to the hole hard and finished with 21 points and seven rebounds.

"Ryan also was very aggressive with the basketball and had six rebounds," the coach added.

Saturday's win was Bemidji's 17th in 20 outings and the Jacks will head to Detroit Lakes Tuesday. Their next home appearance will be Saturday against Willmar.
