Jack Kilness

Jack Kilness, age 85, of Hutchinson, Minnesota, formerly of Blackduck, Minnesota, and Owatonna, Minnesota, passed away Monday, June 16th, 2014, at the Birchwood House in Hutchinson. A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held on Thursday, June 19th, 2014, from 3:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. at the Dobratz-Hantge Chapel in Hutchinson. Honorary Urn Bearers are Garth Heydt and the Grandchildren.

Jack Eugene Kilness was born on Feb. 12, 1929 in Skyberg, MN, to Peder and Alta (Cain) Kilness. He was baptized and confirmed at the Hegra Church near West Concord, MN, and attended West Concord Schools.

Jack married Jean Ahrens on May 28, 1948, at the home of her parents in Medford, MN. They were blessed with 3 children, John, Karyn and Peder.

Jack was a building Superintendent for John Sahf Construction company. He built houses, churches, schools, banks and other projects in the southern MN area. In 1974, Jack and Jean purchased Lost Acres Resort on Kitchi Lake in Blackduck, MN, they ran the business until 1982. Indian Health Services of Bemidji, MN, sought out and hired Jack in their Facilities Management Division as a Construction Building Auditor/Inspector where he worked until he retired at age 62.

One thing that Jack's friends will remember was his willingness to work on multiple types of projects for them - he truly was the Jack of all trades and the master of many. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, inventing and repairing, but his passion was in playing pool. While snow birding in Mesa, Arizona, Jack won many singles and doubles Pool Championships and trophies.

Jack entered the Birchwood House on June 5th, 2014, and passed away there on Monday, June 16th, 2014, at the age of 85 years.

Jack is survived by his Children, John (Joyce) Kilness, Medford, MN; Karyn (Garth) Heydt, Hutchinson, MN; Peder (Ellen) Kilness, Huntsville, Al, and grandchildren, Monty, Debbie, Matthew, Charles, Katie, Jackie, Kristin, Michele, Mark and 9 great grandchildren; sister, Betty (Kilness) DeFliger and her husband, Richard, West Concord, MN.

Jack is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jean; sisters, Pauline, Dorothy, Shirley, Harriet; brothers, Palmer, Merle, Frank.
