J. Duane McCracken
J. Duane McCracken, 85, of Bemidji, formerly of Minneapolis, died Jan. 2, 2013 at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.
Duane was born June 14, 1927 at Hibbing, Minnesota, the son of J. Oscar and Selena (Rosewall) McCracken. He was raised and educated there. He served our country in the U. S. Navy during World War II and in the Korean Conflict. Following his discharge, he returned to Hibbing where he worked for Butler Taconite Company for several years. He married Ethel Marie Jensen on February 12, 1949 at Immanuel Lutheran in St. Paul. They made their home first in Hibbing and then in Minneapolis-St. Paul for the next 50 years. He worked for Metro Transit, Skelly Oil and retired with Getty Oil. They moved to Bemidji a year and a half ago to be near family.
He was a member of First Lutheran Church. Duane loved fishing, deer hunting, camping and later RV’ing and working on his model railroad. After losing his sight, he enjoyed listening to audio books.
He is survived by his wife – Ethel M. McCracken of Bemidji Daughter- Bonnie L. Bush of Bemidji Son- James R. (Karol Hendricks) McCracken of Bemidji 3 grandchildren- Mikka (Jake) Marshall of Chicago, IL Ky McCracken of Mankato, MN Keila McCracken of Bemidji 2 sisters- Marilyn Torvick of Duluth, MN Jeanette Gibson of Winnipeg, Manitoba Brother-in-law- Merle T. Jenson of Waseca, MN
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son-in-law – Joseph P. Bush, Jr.
Duane was a wonderful and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him.
