Irene Pearl Kleen, 81, of Akeley, Minn., formerly of Cass Lake, died Thursday, April 16, 2009, at Kay's Pine Chalet in Akeley.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cass Lake with the Rev. Allan Wierschke officiating. A visitation will be held from noon-2 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Cass Lake.
Dennis Funeral Home of Cass Lake assisted the family with arrangements.
She was born Sept. 18, 1927, to Fred and Edith (Holcomb) Dase in Balsam Lake, Wis. Her family moved to Amboy, Minn., where she grew up, attended school and she graduated from Amboy High School. Following high school, she lived and worked in Mankato, Minn., for several years. In May 1960, she married Harold Wilbur Kleen. In 1964, they moved to Cass Lake, where they owned and operated the Oakdale Grove Resort until 1989. Harold died in 1983. In 1989, she moved in to Cass Lake and worked as a C-Sep for the U.S. Forest Service until her retirement. She then moved to Park Rapids to be closer to family. In September 2008, she moved to Kay's Pine Chalet in Akeley. She enjoyed playing pranks, laughing and joking. She also enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She loved animals, going to garage sales and tending her garden.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan (Matthew) Schmidt; sons, Howard Kleen and Dale (Diane) Kleen; seven grandchildren; brothers, Fred (Beverly) Dase and Frank (Helen) Dase and sister, Helen (Charles) Nystrom.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
