Irene King

Irene King, 83, of Detroit Lakes, died Monday December 1, 2008 at the Cottages at Emmanuel Community in Detroit Lakes.

Sylvia Irene Walstrom was born the second child of Sievert and Helen (Momb) Walstrom on Dec. 17, 1924 in Rochert. She attended school in Audubon and Detroit Lakes. She married Ervin R. Sharp on November 30, 1941 in Frazee. World War II caused the young couple to spend three of their early years apart while Ervin served in the Army.

Irene was best known as a homemaker, a wonderful mother and faithful church worker. She was a long time member of First Baptist Church in Frazee, where she served as a Sunday School teacher, deaconess and Women's Mission Circle leader. She was employed for many years at the Furey Funeral Home in Frazee.

Erv passed away in October 1984. Irene married Earl King on June 28, 1987. They lived in rural Detroit Lakes until they moved to Lamplighter Manor in 2004 and recently to the Cottages at Emmanuel Community.

Irene is survived by her husband, Earl King, one son, Gale (Carol) Sharp, of Vergas, two daughters, Suzanne (Steve) Damlo of Hartford, Conn., and Lynette (Kevin) Wermager of Penrose, Colo.; stepson, Tim (Wanda) King of Minneapolis; six grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; eight great grandchildren; and one step-great grandson; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dean and Shirley Nelson of Detroit Lakes, Wayne and Beverly Sharp of Salem, Ore., Allen and Phyllis Menter of South Dakota, Lois Walstrom of Cambridge, Minn., and Carolyn Krueger of Missouri; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Irene in death were her infant daughter, Marcia Sharp; first husband, Ervin R. Sharp; brothers, Curtis Lindblad, Severt Walstrom and Fred Krueger; and one sister, Betty Roseth.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be at Lakeside Cemetery, Frazee.
