The Board of Directors of the Joint Economic Development Commission has appointed Marc Wiechmann to be the Interim Executive Director of the JEDC.
Wiechmann has served on the JEDC Board for 22 years and has been involved in some of the major projects of the organization over that time period. Wiechmann has also served as chair of the Investment Committee and was president of the JEDC in 1990. He will serve as the interim director until a full time executive director is hired by the JEDC.
Until his retirement in February, Wiechmann served as manager in Bemidji for Otter Tail Power Company. He was employed by the company for the last 34 years. Wiechmann served on the North Country Health Services for nine years and currently is president of the Bemidji Development Corporation, which oversees the development of Bemidji Industrial Park. He has been a board trustee of the George W. Neilson Foundation for more than 10 years.
Harold VanLeeuwen, president of the JEDC, said, "The board felt that Marc is the right choice at the right time for guiding the organization through its next phase of redefining its role within the economic community the JEDC is positioned to serve. He will subsequently be assisting and coaching the JEDC in the selection of a new full time director who will assume the role of leading the redefined JEDC. Because of his long-term membership on the JEDC Board, Marc is very familiar with the daily operations of the JEDC and will provide the leadership to our organization during this period of transition."
