Ida Loos

Ida Loos, 85, of Bemidji, died on Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009, at Neilson Place in Bemidji.

A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Becida Community Church with the Rev. Linnea Papke-Larson officiating. Inurnment will be in the spring at Fern Township Cemetery in Hubbard County.

Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home of Bemidji assisted the family with arrangements.

She was born on Nov. 14, 1923, Claud and Mamie (Lawrence) Ritter in Chilliwack, British Columbia, Canada. Her father, who was a logger, moved his family to western Washington in 1930; where she lived until 1945. She graduated from Mary M. Knight School in Shelton, Wash., in 1942. She married Les Loos Sr. on July 14, 1942. They lived in Puyallup, Wash., until Les was discharged from the U.S. Army in 1945. They moved to Wyoming where they farmed until 1955, when the couple moved to Selah, Wash., to work in the apple industry.

They moved back to Wyoming in 1960 to assist his parents with their farm. In 1965, they bought a farm in Becida and farmed it until 1980. They retired and traveled the states until Les died. She began working as a foster grandparent in 1993 and continued until 2008. She enjoyed gardening and crocheting.

She is survived by her daughters, Sherri (Ray) Alexander of Butte, Mont., Virginia (Joe) Kurtz of Yakima, Wash., and Janet (Don) Haugan of Bemidji; sons, Les (JoAnn) Loos, Jr. of Glenrock, Wyo., and Mark Loos of Bemidji; 20 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Kathleen Christmas of Yakima, Wash.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Linda Aubertin; a brother, Carl Ritter; a sister, Nettie Frenck; a grandson and a great-grandson.
