Hubert Joseph Denny of Bemidji lived 97 years and passed away peacefully in Gardnerville, Nevada on Wednesday, April 3, 2013.

Memorial Services are at 1:00 pm Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji with Deacon Kermit Erickson officiating with military honors by the VFW post # 1260 of Bemidji. Interment will at the Greenwood Cemetery in Bemidji.

Hubert was born July 30, 1915. He will be remembered as a great man of noble character. A quote from his high school year book says, “Straight and tall, woven in the hall of grace.” He was born into a Native American and Irish Catholic family in Wisconsin, the oldest of 8 children. He graduated in 1935 from Flandreau, S.D. High School where he met his future wife, Iyone Brown, then attended Engineering vocational school. He served in the US Navy from 1943-1945 during WWII. They raised their family in Bemidji, MN. He worked as a general contractor. He was industrious, kind, soft spoken and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his children Hubert Gerald Denny, Anita Gail (Denny) Mahoney and husband Ronald W. Mahoney Sr., and Chari Renee (Denny) Veloon and husband Robert Veloon; 8 grandchildren, 4 adopted grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents Adam and Rachel (Phillips) Denny, wife Iyone (Brown) Denny, 1 grandson Darian Denny, 2 sisters Geraldine and Julianne and 5 brothers John, Reginald, August, Arnold and Raymond.
