Hubbard County offers SkyWarn course for residents
PARK RAPIDS - A SkyWarn storm spotter course will be offered here April 24 to local community members.
The course, sponsored by the Hubbard County Sheriff's Office-Emergency Management Office and National Weather Service, will be from 6:30-9:15 p.m. in the Law Enforcement Center Conference Room.
The Weather Service encourages anyone with an interest in public service and access to communication, such HAM radio, to join the program.
Volunteers include police and fire personnel, dispatchers, EMS workers, public utility workers and other concerned private citizens. Individuals affiliated with hospitals, schools, churches, nursing homes or who have a responsibility for protecting others are also encouraged to become a spotter.
The course will cover basics of thunderstorm development, fundamentals of storm structure, identifying potential severe weather features, how to report information and basic severe weather safety.
Once residents have completed their SkyWarn training, they will be added to the roster for on-call spotter activation during times of inclimate weather.
Seating is limited. Direct any questions to Deputy Brian Halbasch at (218) 732-2588 or email@example.com
