Howard leads Bemidji swimmers, divers at Hibbing

HIBBING – Sam Howard won the diving to lead Bemidji to seventh place at Saturday’s giant Hibbing Invitational.

Howard tallied 378.55 points to lead the competition.

Simley won the meet with 420 points while the Lumberjacks scored 184.5.

Bemidji’s Tyler Hemp contributed a pair of top-five finishes as he was third in the 100 breast stroke (1:06.61) and fourth in the 200 free (1:58.89).

Also placing among the leaders were Nate Gubbels who was eighth in the 100 back (1:06.35), Nick Gubbels who was ninth in the 50 free (24.47) and 10th in the 100 free (54.29), and Eli Wright who was ninth in the 500 free (5:49.14).

The Jacks 200 free relay team of Nate Gubbels, Hemp, Matt Arndt and Nick Gubbels was fourth (1:50.46).
