House fire causes damage, no injuries

BEMIDJI – A house fire caused an undetermined amount of damage Monday evening, but no one was injured.
The fire department got the call from a bystander just before 5 p.m. for a fire at 506 Mississippi Ave. NW.
Fire Chief Dave Hoefer said the fire appeared to start on the exterior of the back side of the house, and made its way indoors and into an attic area. Fire crews cut multiple holes in the roof, where flames loomed over the house.
Hoefer said residents were at home when the fire started, but everyone made it out safely.
The structure was left standing, but the fire caused a “moderate” amount of damage, Hoefer said.
The house is located just a few blocks from the city’s fire hall, which Hoefer said helped firefighters put the fire out before it got worse.
