HOCKEY: Maine rallies again, tops BSU 3-2 in shootout

BEMIDJI — Maine rallied in the third period for the second straight game Saturday night at the Sanford Center and went on to win 3-2 in a shootout over Bemidji State in non-conference women’s hockey.

The Black Bears, who scored four goals in the third period Friday night to win 4-3, got a tying goal from Brittany Dougherty to force overtime Saturday.

Neither team scored in the extra session, but Maine outscored the Beavers 2-1 in the shootout. Goalies Brittany Ott of Maine and Jessica Havel of Bemidji stood tall in the shootout. Ott stopped three of Maine’s attempts and Havel turned away two. Audra Richards got the shootout winner.

Bemidji State, 2-7-1, hosts North Dakota in a two-game WCHA series starting Saturday afternoon.
