History series debuts tonight at Bemidji Public Library

BEMIDJI — The Bemidji Public Library’s four-week series on important historical figures in Bemidji and Beltrami County starts tonight.

The first program, “Giacomo Beltrami: His Story and His Statue” will be from 6 to 7 tonight in the front meeting room at the Bemidji Public Library, 509 America Ave. NW. The presentation by John Eggers will highlight the journey of Giacomo Costantino Beltrami and his discovery of the Mississippi Headwaters.

Other events in the series include “The Life and Times of George Bonga: A Looming figure in the Northwoods” on Jan. 23; “Shaynowishkung: Ojibwe Culture, History, and Perspectives” on Jan. 30 and “Charles W. Scrutchin: Bemidji’s Black Lawyer, 1898-1930” on Feb. 6.
