Authorities identify man who died in fiery crash on Interstate 29 south of Grand Forks

Hildagard A. Pierskalla, 95, of Wabasha, Minn., formerly of Bemidji, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009 at St. Elizabeth's Health Care Center in Wabasha.

A funeral Mass will be offered this spring at St. Columbkille Catholic Church in St. Wendel, Minn. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4-6 p.m. today at the Abbott Funeral Home in Wabasha, with a prayer service at 6 p.m. with the Rev. Glen Frerichs officiating.

The Abbott Funeral Home of Wabasha assisted the family with arrangements.

She was born on Dec. 22, 1913, to William and Emma (Eichstadt) Haberle in Bemidji. She married Aloys Pierskalla on May 1, 1934, in Bemidji. Aloys worked in road construction and she was a homemaker. The family lived in St. Cloud, Minn., and Minneapolis, Minn., before moving to Bemidji in 1946. They moved to Robbinsdale, Minn., in 1967 and in 1979 the couple moved to Wabasha.

She was a member of St. Felix Catholic Church in Wabasha and a member of the church's Council of Catholic Women. She enjoyed cooking and sewing. She especially loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Aloys Pierskalla of Wabasha; son and daughter-in-law, William and Carol Ann Pierskalla of Bradenton, Fla.; grandsons, Nicholas (Sheila), William (Terese) and Michael (Kim) Pierskalla; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Elizabeth Anne and Veronica Pierskalla; sister, Lucille Eichstadt of Danbury, Texas; nieces and nephews, among whom is a special niece, Dolores Johnson of Bemidji.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Fred, August, John and Donald Haberle; and seven sisters, Catherine Haberle, Edith Paulson, Marie Kelley, Anna Lloyd, Ruth Stahl, Helen Carroll and Eleanor Schmidt.
