The driver of a North Dakota-licensed GMC truck was immediately taken into custody and transported to the Becker County jail.

The pursuit began around 7 a.m. when motorists on Highway 34 called in reports of a vehicle swerving on the highway. Repeated calls from motorists helped State Patrol officers locate the vehicle between Toad Lake and Snellman, where the driver apparently refused to stop.

The chase went through Snellman and ended at the intersection of Becker County 225, one mile west of Osage, when a Patrol car apparently nudged the GMC off the road, crashing into it.

The GMC had apparently taken the northbound roadway.

Traffic at the time was heavy on the highway with morning commuters, holiday travelers and bicyclists out for morning exercise.

Fire trucks from the Park Rapids Fire Department arrived on scene shortly after the crash to extinguish flames from the impact.

The GMC appeared to be extensively damaged. The State Patrol vehicle involved had significant front end damage.
