High school baseball: Cass Lake-Bena defeats Drakes for season sweep
The Cass Lake-Bena baseball team completed a season sweep of Blackduck Thursday by defeating the Drakes 9-3 at Blackduck.
The Panthers scored eight runs in the second inning and added another run in the third.
Blackduck scored all three of its runs in the first inning.
Cass Lake-Bena's Mike Hanson was 2-for-4 and had a two-run home run in the second inning.
Blackduck's Todd Kallroos was 2-for-3 with one run scored and two stolen bases.
Cass Lake-Bena's Chad Wittner and Blackduck's Brett Mistic pitched complete games.
Wittner had seven strikeouts and Mistic had three strike outs.
Blackduck fell to 10-4 with the loss.
On Tuesday, Cass Lake-Bena split a doubleheader at Lake of the Woods.
LOTW overcame an early 3-2 deficit to win the first game 10-5.
In the second game, Cass Lake-Bena scored two runs in the fifth to defeat the Bears 4-2 in a game shortened to six innings.
Freshman Caleb Fisher pitched the second game and improved to 3-0 on the season.
Cass Lake's record stands at 12-4-1 overall and 9-4-1 in the Northland Conference.
