High School baseball: Cass Lake-Bena beats Laporte for second straight win

LAPORTE - Cass Lake-Bena won for the second straight night Thursday.

Coming off a Wednesday night win over Blackduck, the Panthers defeated Laporte 10-2.

Cass Lake-Bena scored in the first four innings, highlighted by a three-run second inning and a five-run third inning.

Laporte scored one run in the fourth and seventh innings.

Cass Lake scored its runs on 12 hits.

Brett Finn, Nolan Goss and Chad Wittner each had two hits in the game for the Panthers. Goss, Wittner and Taylor Humphrey each scored two runs.

Matt Christopherson had two hits and one run scored for Laporte.

Chase Remer scored the other run for the Wildcats.

Christopherson pitched the entire game and finished with 15 strikeouts.

Caleb Fisher pitched the entire game for Cass Lake-Bena for the win. He allowed three hits, struck out 11 and walked two.

Laporte dropped to 1-10 with the loss and will travel to Northome/Kelliher next Tuesday.

Cass Lake-Bena improved to 9-3-1 overall with its second straight win and are off for the weekend. The Panthers host Remer next Monday.

The Panthers then travel to Lake of the Woods for a doubleheader next Tuesday.
