Herman Lepley, 82, of Bemidji, formerly of Shevlin, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009, at North Country Regional Hospital in Bemidji.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Cease Family Funeral Home in Bagley with Mardy Schermerhorn officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Flag presentation will be by the Irvin Blix American Legion Post No. 16 of Bagley. Burial will be in the Shevlin Village Cemetery in the spring.

He was born April 23, 1926, to Warren and Minnie Lepley in Forest City, Iowa. He moved to Indiana as a child and then moved to Shevlin in 1942. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944-1946. After his discharge he moved back to Shevlin.

He sailed the Great Lakes, drove truck for Smith Logging, was a foreman at Martin Saw Mill, owned and operated Jennie's Bar in Shevlin and worked for Nelson Eggs. In later years, he repaired lawn mowers. He married Jennie Barcus Nov. 6, 1961, in Bagley. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, reading, and spending time in the outdoors. He was a member of the Irvin Blix American Legion Post No. 16 of Bagley.

He is survived by his wife of Bemidji; daughters, Janice Parson of Bemidji and Delores (Cleo) Christopherson of Bemidji; sons, Keith (Linda) Barcus of Bemidji and Kent (Connie) Barcus of Bemidji; sister, Dorothy Schomberg of Shevlin; 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Esther Jenkins and brothers, Harold and Ed.
