Herbert Jasper Riedemann, 78, of Bemidji died Monday, October 7, 2013 at Sanford Bemidji Medical Center.
Memorial Services will be 1:00 pm Monday, October 14, 2013 at First Lutheran Church in Bemidji, MN with Rev. Corey Fuhrman officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment, with Honors, will be 10:45 am Wednesday Oct. 16th at the Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji. Honorary urnbearers will be his Friday Coffee Group. Memorials are preferred to First Lutheran Church. Condolences may be left at ceasefuneralhome.com.
Herb was born January 12, 1935 in Melrose Park, Illinois, the son of John and Nora (Landmeier) Riedemann. Following his high school graduation from Elgin, Ill, 1953, he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Henderson, thru 1957; he was Honorably Discharged at the rank of Chief Petty Officer. Following the Navy he entered the University of Illinois, Champaign, and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1961. He was a member of the Triangle fraternity. While in school he married Hilda Mae Fisher August 28, 1960. In 1961, he started his 24 year career with Control Data Corp. in Minneapolis. During that time Herb & Hilda had the opportunity to live in Canada and Australia, as Herb installed and programmed mainframe computers. As his roles increased in responsibility he served as a plant manager in Spring Grove, MN, Casper, WY, and then Bemidji. In 1987 he bought Mr. Donut/Dunkin Donut which he ran until 1997. He supported his community thru membership in Lions Club, Chamber and as a board member of the North Country Regional Hospital. He was an active member of First Lutheran Church, serving on several boards. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. His latter passion was carving ducks, which he gave to many family and friends. Most importantly, he was a kind man who loved life and his family, and found happiness and humor daily.
Herb is survived by his wife- Hilda Riedemann, daughter- Renee (Tom) Turner of Apple Valley, MN, 2 sons- Dietrich Riedemann of Munds Park, AZ, and Trevor (Jennifer) Riedemann of Ankeny, IA, 6 grandchildren- Hanna, Nikolaus, Rebekah, Natalie, Laura and Matthew,
2 brothers - Walter Riedemann of Addison, Illinois and John Riedemann of Lake-in-the-Hills, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Leona (Paul) Johnson and Doris (Richard) Ciaccio, and a brother- Robert Riedemann.
