Henry "Hank" Vold, 73, of Bemidji, died Friday, Dec. 12, 2008, at his home.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home in Bemidji with the Rev. Mark Papke-Larson officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pinewood-Dodge Cemetery, Buzzle Township, Beltrami County.
Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home in Bemidji assisted the family with arrangements.
Pallbearers will be the Grand Forks Air Force Base Honor Guard.
Honorary pallbearers will be Roger Gunsalus, Jerry Johnson and Dick Gravelle.
He was born Feb. 3, 1935, to Henry and Amanda (Johnson) Vold in Fairdale, N.D. He moved to Pinewood at the age of 5 and attended Pinewood grade school. He graduated from Bemidji High School with the class of 1953. He entered the U.S. Air Force in 1953, serving in the Korean and Vietnam wars. He had three children, Kim, Hank and Jennifer, in his marriage to Joyce Bohlmann. In 1973, he retired as a master sergeant from the Grand Forks Air Force Base in North Dakota. He moved to Bemidji, where he worked as the director of General Services at North County Regional Hospital for 23 years, retiring in 1997. On January 11, 1985, he married Peggy Fossand in Bemidji and his family grew with the addition of her two sons, Jeff and Scott.
His hobbies included, golfing, gardening, fishing and woodworking. He was famous for his lefse baking and for making Norwegian food.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Kim (Fred) Whelan of Bemidji and Jennifer Richardson of Northwood, N.D.; son, Henry Vold Jr. of Erskine.; stepsons, Jeffrey (Janice) Slimmer of St. Michael, Minn., and Scott (Dawn) Slimmer of Maple Grove, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and sisters, Mabel (Keith) Moeskau of Bemidji and Marian Fossand of Seattle, Wash.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Amanda Vold; sister, Ann Tharldson and brothers, Martin, Morris and Jim Vold.
