Helen M. Hanson, 86, of Detroit Lakes, died Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes.
Helen Marjorie Annis was born June 23, 1921 in Plainfield, Iowa. She was raised and educated in Battlecreek, Mich., Plainfield and Pine River, Minn. She graduated from Pine River High School in 1939. In 1940 she married Ed Fleshner in New Burgh, Ore. They made their home in Luverne, Minn., until 1941, before moving to Hackensack, Minn., where they resided from 1941-75.
Ed died in 1974. Helen moved to Detroit Lakes and in August 1975, she married Ted Hanson. Ted died in 1977. Helen continued to live in Detroit Lakes, becoming a resident at Emmanuel Nursing Home in January 2006. She enjoyed gardening, taking care of her flowers, crocheting, reading and visiting with family and friends.
Surviving Helen are her son, Donald Fleshner of Colorado; one sister, Ethel Hallock of Detroit Lakes; two stepdaughters, Gertrude (Virgil) Krogstad of Detroit Lakes and Emily Digman; one stepson, Karol Hanson; as well as four step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Helen in death were her husbands, Ed Fleshner and Ted Hanson; one daughter, Judy Fleshner; and one son, Dale Fleshner.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, April 11 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Detroit Lakes; there will be visitation at the church Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of services. Interment will be at the Seventh Day Adventist Cemetery in rural Detroit Lakes.
