Helen "Babe" Virginia Hanson

HELEN "BABE" VIRGINIA HANSON, age 80, of Bemidji, MN and formerly of Cohasset, MN, died Friday, December 27, 2013 at Sanford Bemidji Medical Center.

Babe was born in 1933 in Cohasset, MN to Anton and Laura Monson. She attended school in Cohasset. Babe was united in marriage to Howard W. Hanson on October 9, 1949 and later following their retirement they resided in the home that Babe was born in. She was employed as a realtor in the Grand Rapids area. Babe enjoyed traveling, fishing, camping, playing cards with family and friends, collecting dolls and watching old movies. She was an avid Minnesota Twins fan.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Howard; sisters, Dorothy Splettstoesser and Blanche Skogman; brother, Marcus Monson; and great-grandchildren, Jaxon Hanson and Serena Elkins.

Babe is survived by daughter, Deborah Walters of Marble, MN; sons, Ken (Victoria) Hanson of Amherst, VA, Dan Hanson of Grand Rapids, MN, and David (Roslyn) Hanson of Bemidji, MN; sister, Ruth (Joe) Stejskal of Cohasset, MN; brothers, Martin (Thora) Monson of Embarrass, MN and Alfred (Juanita) Monson of Eureka, CA; 9 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A gathering of family and friends will be Saturday, January 4th from 10:00 AM until the 11:00 AM Memorial Service at the First Church of God in Grand Rapids, MN. Pastor Dale Steele will officiate. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery, Cohasset, MN at a later date.

Arrangements are by Rowe Funeral Home and Crematory of Grand Rapids.
