Heavy snowfall creates dangerous driving conditions
BEMIDJI -- A band of heavy snow moving through northwest Minnesota is creating dangerous driving conditions in the Bemidji area.
Nearly all of the federal, state and county highways in northwest Minnesota are listed as "difficult" on the Minnesota Department of Transportation's road condition website map this morning. The DOT issued a no-travel advisory in western Marshall and southern Kittson counties due to blowing snow and reduced visibility, according to a press release.
Snow began falling overnight, becoming heavy at times, and some Bemidji-area residents were reporting between 4 to 6 inches of new snow to the Beltrami County Emergency Management's Facebook page.
The Bemidji are remains in a winter storm warning until 7 p.m., according to the National Weather Service office in Grand Forks, N.D. A blizzard warning has been issued in the Red River Valley, including for Grand Forks, as heavy snowfall and strong winds could create blizzard-like conditions.
