Health officials link illness to water park

DULUTH, Minn. (AP) -- Minnesota health officials have linked a parasitic disease to a Duluth water park.

Department of Health epidemiologist Trisha Robinson says several cases of cryptosporidium have been confirmed in Minnesota and Wisconsin and a half dozen more are suspected. Robinson says for every confirmed case, there are dozens of others that aren't reported.

Health officials say all those who have contracted the waterborne, intestinal disease recently visited the Edgewater Resort and Water Park. The Duluth News Tribune says the resort's owner, ZMC Hotels, voluntarily closed the business and disinfected the water park before opening again.

The illness has flu-like symptoms, which can take anywhere from two days to two weeks to appear.
