Headwaters restoration events set

CASS LAKE — There will be a Mississippi River (Headwaters) watershed restoration and protection project kick-off event 4 to 7:30 p.m. June 4 at the Pike Bay Town Hall, 15514 State Highway 371 NW, Cass Lake. Rep. John Persell, DFL-Bemidji, is scheduled to attend.

There will also be an event from 4 to 7:30 p.m. June 6 in the Deer River High School Commons, 101 1st Ave. NE, Deer River. Sen. Tom Saxhaug, DFL-Grand Rapids, is scheduled to attend.

The events will feature discussion on the comprehensive watershed assessment project being launched this year by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency and local partners. The goals of the project are to assess the health of surface water and develop a plan for protecting and restoring the watershed, according to a press release.

Community members will be able to learn how local, federal and state partners are working to assess the health of area lakes and rivers; ask local experts related questions; share ideas; explore informational displays and meet with elected officials.
