Hazel F. Palm, 92, of Detroit Lakes, died Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at St. Mary's Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes.

Hazel F. Krause was born to Charles and Lillian (Wilkins) Krause on January 22, 1917 in Holmesville Township, rural Detroit Lakes. She grew up in near Rochert and attended the Rochert School. On July 4, 1935 she married Frederick Palm. They made their home near Rochert, and Hazel worked as a waitress at the city municipal liquor store in Detroit Lakes for 27 years. She was an active member of Bakke Lutheran Church, serving on Ladies Aid and WELCA.

Hazel loved to dance, play cards, and spend time with her family. She taught her grandchildren how to play penny poker. She also liked casinos. She took a trip to Las Vegas for her 80th birthday. She liked to cook and bake, and was known for her doughnuts. She enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening and was proud of her raspberry patch.

Surviving Hazel are her son, David Palm of Rochert; five grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; and her sister, Bertha Stellmacher.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband Frederick (1944); daughter-in-law, Evelyn Palm; grandson, Wayne Palm; and three sisters, Evelyn Krause, Elizabeth Gjerde and Frances Krause.

Visitation is scheduled to take place from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15 at the West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, with a prayer service starting at 5 p.m.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 16 at Bakke Lutheran Church, rural Detroit Lakes, with the Rev. Gregory S. Anderson officiating.

Casket bearers will be Dave Johnson, Ben Weekley, Joshua Palm, Mike Tibodeau, Curt Vinje and Tom Sharbonno.

Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes.
